Dr. Sonia Masciantonio is a socio-cultural anthropologist with extensive experience in contextual research, human-centered service design, and policy development. Her expertise spans academia, state government, private industry, and the not-for-profit sector. Throughout her career, she has prioritised roles that centre around the human experience and firmly believes that collaborating with individuals who have lived experience of the issues being addressed is essential for effective problem-solving.

As the leader of SYC’s Lived Experience Engagement Service, Sonia focuses on amplifying the voices and perspectives of those who have experienced homelessness and housing insecurity. She recognises these individuals as unique subject matter experts and valuable resources for service and systemic improvement. By valuing the insights from individuals who have navigated these challenges, policymakers and service providers can develop more effective and compassionate strategies. This approach not only fosters innovation but also ensures that solutions are grounded in the realities of those they aim to serve.
